Job Summary
Hawkeye Community College’s Athletic department is seeking part-time Athletic Shuttle Drivers to join their team. Are you looking for a part-time job with flexible hours and have a passion for college athletics? If so, this may be the opportunity you have been waiting for.
As our Athletic Shuttle Driver, you are primarily responsible for driving the Athletic departments 35-passenger bus for athletic competitions. Majority of competitions are on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Most travel is the same day as the competition, however, there are occasional overnight stays that are necessary for tournaments or longer trips. The right candidate has the flexibility to pick which trips work for their schedule at the beginning of the year.
In 2015, Hawkeye Community College launched its first ever intercollegiate sport program and has since accumulated 17 athletic programs to include: sports shooting, men & women’s soccer, men and women’s cross country, men & women’s track and field, men & women’s golf, women's volleyball, esports, competitive dance, women’s softball, men & women’s bowling, and men & women’s wrestling. The Hawkeye RedTail Athletic Programs compete within the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) as Division II when applicable.

Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Drives bus and/or van for athletic competitions and events across the State and the Nation.

Provides information regarding vehicle maintenance to athletic administration.

Fuels vehicle with gas, keeps vehicle clean inside and out, and obtains and submits receipts for gas purchases and washing.

Transports student-athletes to and from their scheduled destinations at a variety of times including evenings, weekends and occasionally overnight.

Provides courteous service, assisting student-athletes when necessary.

Provides a daily log of mileage.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must possess a current Class C CDL license (or higher) with a passenger and/or school bus endorsement that is valid in the State of Iowa.

Must pass/meet FMCSA requirements up to and including a pre-employment drug test, a completed FMCSA application and employment verifications.

Must pass/meet Hawkeye Community College compliance requirements, up to and including a background check.

Must pass/meet Hawkeye Community College’s insurance carrier verification and requirements, up to and including a motor vehicle record evaluation.

Demonstrated ability to provide safe transportation service while being reliable, prompt, and courteous.

Demonstrated ability to assist riders if necessary.

Demonstrated ability to work with a culturally diverse student population, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication.
-
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology.

Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
Working Conditions
The schedule is based on seasonal demands and can include evenings, weekends and occasionally overnight.
Driving a 33-passenger bus or 15-passenger van. Requires skills for succeeding in a bus, shuttle and/or office environment, using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Work is performed in an office setting. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move intermittently during working hours. During the course of the day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
Employment Status
Part-time position averaging 10-20 hours per week. Flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and occasionally overnight.
